DRINK RED WINE & LIVE LONGER
Fortune magazine is reporting about a biotech firm in the US called Sirtris Pharmaceutical that is trying to recreate the health-boosting effects found in the chemical resveratrol.
“Its stated goal is to develop medicines that have the same health-boosting effects in people that resveratrol had on (mice in lab tests). But that hardly captures the company’s sweeping promise: If it succeeds, its medicines may retard the onset or progression of a whole slew of age-related diseases, from diabetes to Alzheimer’s to cancer. The drugs may also have an extremely provocative side effect: They might extend life span,” the magazine reported.
But while it is likely to take many years for the drugs to become commercially available, you can already start enjoying the benefits of resveratrol by drinking red wine which comprises trace amounts of resveratrol in its chemical make-up.
