LEOPARD’S LEAP HAS A LAUGH

Wednesday, 13 November saw the launch of the new book, Take Two Veg and Call Me in the Morning, byZapiro
political cartoonist extraordinaire, Zapiro. While the venue, the Fruit and Veg City Cape Town CBD store was in true Zapiro style, tongue in cheek, its proximity to Parliament, ensured that many a political whos-who were there to raise a toast to this king of local satire and social commentary.

Not one to shy from contraversy, its almost a given that Zapiro was behind the choice of guest speaker, Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge, ex-Deputy Minister of Health who famously challenged President Thabo Mbeki and the Minister of Health, Dr. Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, on their HIV/Aids policies, and was consequently dismissed from her position. The title of the book plays on the contraversy surrounding these policies.

Guests sipped on Leopard’s Leap wines while enjoying an insightful speech, followed by some serious networking. Leopard’s Leap was proud to be part of an event that embraces one of the pillars of our democracy, namely the right to the freedom of expression.
