Stokbrood with makataan & whipped butter
Stokbrood with makataan & whipped butter
Ingredients:
2 cups bread flour
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp instant yeast
2 tsp sugar
ó tsp salt
2 Tblsp butter
75 ml full cream milk
5 Tblsp water
Method:
Mix the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Rub butter into the flour mixture.
Mix the egg, milk and water and add to the mixture to form a dough.
Let the dough rest for 30 minutes, then fold it four times inwards and allow to rest for another 30 minutes. Repeat the folding process three times.
Roll out the dough and cut into strips of 20 mm x 300 mm long. Twist around cleaned bay leaf branches and seal the ends with a bit of water.
Allow the stokbrood (bread on a stick) to proof for 30 minutes before putting it on the braai.
On a medium-heat fire, cook the stokbrood until golden brown on all sides and cooked through.
Serve with makataan pieces and whipped butter.
