MORE THAN SARDINES AND CUSTARD TARTS – LEARN TO COOK PORTUGUESE!

How much do you know about Portuguese cuisine? While the food cultures of Mediterranean countries such as Italy, Spain and France are well-known, Portuguese food is often perceived to be limited to garlicky sardines. But of course that is plain ignorance and the wonderful rustic flavours of Portugal seem to be the new fashion in food circles.

Culinary-trend-setting Europe sees Portuguese restaurants popping up everywhere and even in South Africa, food magazines are sharing the traditional Portuguese recipes and their modern interpretations.

Always up-to-date when it comes to food and wine, Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards has invited Portuguese-born J’Something of popular South African band, Mi Casa and DStv’s Something’s Cooking to host a Portuguese Cooking Class in the Leopard’s Leap Kitchen.

On 14 and 15 October, he will be presenting a cooking demonstration and hands-on cooking class sharing some of his family’s delicious Mediterranean-inspired recipes, honest flavours and cooking tips in his informal and fun style that promises to both inspire and entertain.

Try your hand at making Portuguese favourites such as Caldo Verde, Pastel de Bacalhau (salt cod fritters), skewered prawns with spiced rice, spicy spatchcock chicken, Arroz Doce (sweet rice) and the traditional pastry, Pasteis de Nata.

J’Something’s food philosophy is simple. Begin with love, find a balance between good food and good health and be sustainable.
