The Uncomplicated - Shiraz and Boerenkaas

Boerenkaas, with or without the cumin makes for a lovely pairing with Shiraz - if you add something sweet. We’ve made this delicious berry and fig compote with a touch of vanilla and immediately the cheese and wine come together for an uncomplicated but unparralelled cheese and wine combo! 

Shiraz and Boerenkaas with Fig and Berry Compote

Serves 6 - 8

For the Berry Compote:

120g blueberries

120g blackberries

100g soft Turkish dried figs, roughly chopped

250ml Leopard's Leap Classic Shiraz

15ml vanilla extract

To serve:

200g Boerenkaas

Combine all the ingredients for compote in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes until thick and shiny, stirring often.

Remove from the heat and allow to cool. Serve the compote with the Boerenkaas and the Leopard's Leap Classic Shiraz.
